Meet the Artists
Na-naa-ya-sii – Echoes of our Ancestors, opens on Saturday, Feb. 6 at the Rollin Art Centre Gallery.  The exhibit consists of art works by local Nuu-chah-nulth artists, such as Tim and Tom Paul, Jason Titian, Tobias “Bear” Watts and Kelley Poirier, to name a few.  Meet these talented artists on Thursday, Feb. 11, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Rollin Art Centre, corner of 8th Ave. and Argyle St.  Free admission to the gallery!  Wheelchair accessible.
Tambura Rasa
Tambura Rasa is a buoyant cultural cross-pollination that fuses contemporary grooves and traditional rhythms into one energetic musical brand all their own.  Packed with fiery Spanish guitar, fully orchestrated Baladi Gypsy string section, burning Afro-Latin percussion and sensual Flamenco and Belly dancer, this 7-piece act raises the roof and lights-up skies of any concert grounds they land on.  Tambura Rasa play at the Capitol Theatre, Friday, Feb. 26, 7 p.m.  Tickets $18 adults, $16 senior/students are available at the Rollin Art Centre, Echo Centre and Somass Drugs.  ALL tickets at the door are $20.
The Last Station
The Countess Sofya, wife and muse to Leo Tolstoy, uses every trick of seduction on her husband’s loyal disciple, whom she believes was the person responsible for Tolstoy signing a new will that leaves his work and property to the Russian people.  The film is a typical period piece with stunning art direction by Mark Rosinski and Heike Wolf, stunning costume design by Monika Jacobs and a score to die for by Sergei Yevtushenko.  The Last Station plays at the Paramount Theatre, Wednesday, Feb. 17, 7 p.m. only. Tickets $7 per movie are available at the Rollin Art Centre and the Alberni Valley Museum.
Nude With Violin
The play is set in Paris in 1954.  The famous painter, Paul Sorodin, has died.  His relatives and hangers-on converge on his studio, hopeful of financial gain, and are stunned to learn from his valet, Sebastien, that Sorodin has left a letter in which he admits that he never painted a picture in his life.  The paintings turn out to have been executed by a choleric aristocrat, Anya Pavlikov; a jolly barmaid, Cherry-May Waterton; and a Jamaican Seventh Day Adventist, Obadiah Lewellyn.   Nude with Violin plays at the Capitol Theatre, Feb. 12, 13, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20.  Tickets are available at the Capitol Theatre box office only.
